Chandler
Chandler is one of the most famous and high yielding, American originated walnut variety. Due to its growing vertically, it’s suitable for high volume production orchards. It’s highly resistant to blight and tree worms.
Chandler tree blooms and foliates in late spring which lowers the chance of being effected by late spring frosts. Fruit development and maturation occurs in late seasons. As a result it’s not suitable for regions where winter passes harsh and cold.
Chandler grows its fruits on both terminal and lateral buds which have high fruit yield. Fruits are large (9~13gr) and oval, its shell is thin, smooth and easy to break. Kernel is around 6.5gr and has a yield ratio of 52~55%, its color is light with a ratio of 90~100%.
Even though chandler pollinates itself, to improve the overall yield, using pollinators is a must. Franquette & Cisco varieties are the most favored pollinators. Chandler also pollinates Maraş-18, which is a domestic variety.
