Franquette
Franquette is a traditional French variety, foliates in late spring which lowers the chance of being effected by late spring frosts. Its pistil (female organs) matures later then stamen (male organs), as a results fruit yield is low. But stamen’s (male organ) early maturing makes it a better selection for pollinator trees.
Franquette can grow in low altitude fields with high moisture ratio. Additionally having good blight resistance makes Franquette a good variety for these regions. Its fruits grow on terminal buds which makes its pruning strategies to be considered different than other trees in an orchard.
Fruits are large (9~13gr) and oval, its shell is thin, smooth and easy to extract. Kernel is around 5.2gr and has a yield ratio of 40%. Cisco can be used as pollinator to improve overall yield.
