Walnut Blight

Definition: Infection on Leaves & Fruits

Symptoms: Black & Brown color changes and necrosis on fruits and leaves

Pathogen Type: Bacterial

Effects: Leaves, fruits and new buds

Activity Duration: Starts from early spring to harvest

Side Effects:

  • Tree Growth: Does not kill trees but fruit yield effects negatively.
  • Leaves: Brown spots in early season, these spots get darker later on.
  • Fruit: Damaged fruits due spot/necrosis occurrence
  • New Buds: Dark and semi concave, shapeless lesions
  • Root: No effects

Regional Features: Regions with high relative humidity

Prevention:

  • Only chemical treatments.

Treatment:

  • Can be controlled by bactericide application
  • First application, in early foliation
  • Second application, after pollination
  • Additional application can be necessary in humid season
